Water: Personal and Universal

Our search for Truth has always led us to look at Nature. The ancient sages of the East noticed annual, seasonal and even daily patterns in their surroundings. After persistent observation they noticed the different qualities of time associated with these cycles and that plants, animals and humans responded in the same way to the prevailing energies.

It’s a Water Day today. Water is absolutely essential to life. It is universal and personal, affecting everyone and everything. This is what today looks like for Your Birth Star:

1 Water: You will feel the pull of many different currents today

2 Earth: The tide is very much in your favour today

3 Thunder: The sun sets over calm waters in your life.

4 Wind: You will enjoy your own company in your own space.

5 T’ai Chi: You will be riding on the crest of a wave, for all to see.

6 Heaven: The tide will be out for you. Take it easy comb the beach

7 Lake: You are always connected in some way to the Ocean. Reflect on that.

8 Mountain: A tidal surge of Chi will propel you beyond your expectations

9 Fire: When Water meets Fire, the resulting steam gives you propulsion.

Fundamental to I Ching Astrology is the notion that the forces that drive the cosmos are at work in our basic natures.

4 Wind Star: Wind and Fire can accomplish anything when handled right.

5 T’ai Chi Star: Today it will pay off to take a step back and watch.

Why bother with the Chi of the Day

The originators of I Ching Astrology keenly observed the changes in nature and how they varied from month to month and year to year.

We know that this most ancient astrological system started out, based on these acute observations, as a farmers’ almanac.

Just as farmers used their knowledge of the energy flow associated with particular periods of time, so can you harvest the best from your life by keeping an eye on how the invisible currents of energy can assist you getting to where you want to go in your life.

Today, we have an 8 Mountain Day, which yields a solid yang Chi – powerful but stable and sometimes introspective. All told a day for examining what you are going and sticking to your guns.

1 Water Star: Even if you could make it happen today, you’d be better off not forcing things.

2 Earth Star: The Mountain Chi will focus you and help you in the task of completion.

3 Thunder Star: Your day in the Fire House energises and empowers you.

4 Wind Star: Gentle, stable Chi gives you the space to embrace your needs.

5 T’ai Chi Star: A sense of fulfilment colours the day with those close to you.

6 Heaven Star: There’s no doubt today: you can do what you set your mind to.

7 Lake Star: Think of a world totally in bloom, and you will feel it too.

8 Mountain Star: Without or within, you will see the way ahead.

9 Fire Star: Keep your own counsel, but know that you can make powerful decisions.

Grounded Chi brings productive weekend

Your weekend 9-11 April 2010

Heaven sits between the T’ai Chi and the Lake this weekend. And I see great prospects for consolidation, grounding, prosperity, strength – and also gardening if the weather holds out!

The dominating elements of Earth for the T’ai Chi Star, which rules Friday, and Metal for Heaven and Lake (Saturday and Sunday) are all Yang. This means the Chi will be steady and steadfast. Looks like a comfortable weekend for all.

Talking about a revolution?

Change with a capital C is on the cards for Britain, as Prime Minister Brown called a General Election for 6 May – the first day of summer in the I Ching Astrology calendar. And what’s more it’s the first day of a Mountain Month in a Mountain Year – a day that anticipates revolution and change…

For those not affected by this election, skip a few paragraphs to get my view of the month ahead for your Birth Star.

Meanwhile, the fortunes of the duelling politicians; incumbent Brown is not well starred; his 4 Wind Star languishes by the year in the Water House; and his position in the 9 Fire House in the April run-up to the polls might well see him burning himself out.

Tory David Cameron and LibDem Nick Clegg, both “charming” 7 Lake Stars, are in the explosive 3 Thunder House as the election looms, and their parties look set for the rapid growth that this House brings.

As summer starts in the UK, the British people will be looking out on a new political landscape.

Away from the electoral hubbub, this is how the 9 Fire Month of April looks; it spans from 5 April to 5 May:

1 Water Star: Respect, fulfilment and being appreciated

2 Earth Star: Rest, relaxation and feeling loved.

3 Thunder Star: Rumination, study and being attentive.

4 Wind Star: Romance, recognition and being noticed

5 T’ai Chi Star: Rejuvenation, planning and getting prepared.

6 Heaven Star: Recognition, affection and being courted.

7 Lake Star: Realisation, opportunity and getting it done.

8 Mountain Star: Robust, determined and staying focussed

9 Fire Star: Rooted, centred and working hard.

Thunder and Fire cleanse perception

“All things are on fire,” The Buddha once remarked. And on a 3 Thunder Day at the start of a 9 Fire Month, things will seem vivid, almost surreal, as a more volatile Chi drives a heightened sense of perception today.

Here’s how I see the day for your Birth Star:

1 Water Star: A dynamic sense of growth arouses new hope.

2 Earth Star: They say, “Believing is seeing.” Today you really can do it…

3 Thunder Star: A deeper sense of enquiry will transform you today.

4 Wind Star: What you see today will clearly inspire others.

5 T’ai Chi Star: The pattern of your life insists on some time off today.

6 Heaven Star: Your muse will find you if you are available.

7 Lake Star: The Chi will shift you to centre stage today,

8 Mountain Star: Contemplation will conserve your much-needed energy.

9 Fire Star: A sense of revelation around your relationships.

Predictable compassion

"No one can second-guess the future,” said James Lovelock, the originator of the Gaia theory. And perhaps a controversial statement to put on an astrology website.

But on a 2 Earth Day like today, it makes a great deal of sense of honour our planet, Mother Earth.

Lovelock’s idea holds that our planet is a single organism that acts with consciousness. Leaving aside the complex scientific theories, this evokes for me a renewed sense of needing to care for and respect my own planet.

I Ching Astrology is more about leading a life of maximum potential rather than picking lottery numbers, so a day spent ruled by the Chi of motherly compassion – the 2 Earth Star is ruled by the I Ching’s mother Trigram – should make a difference to many people in your life. And that is a prediction!

Here’s the outlook for your Birth Star:

1 Water Star: The swelling tide in your life gives you the power to nurture
2 Earth Star: Of all the possibilities that come your way today, look for the compassionate ones.
3 Thunder Star: Your sense of authority will return dividends by assisting others.
4 Wind Star: The best for you today is to look after yourself in preparation for the days ahead.
5 T’ai Chi Star: A sense of connectedness will produce conclusions for you and others.
6 Heaven Star: Passion is the power behind compassion, use it well.
7 Lake Star: Take care of yourself before looking after the people in your life.
8 Mountain Star: The path of friendship is wide and full of joy.
9 Fire Star: A sense of rebirth fills you with gratitude and abundance to share.

Dragon adds precision to Fire Month

In the ancient world of symbols, meanings and timings often coincide in seamless and serendipitous ways. Today sees the start of a 9 Fire Month in I Ching Astrology, as a Metal Dragon month gets underway in Chinese Animal (or Ba Zi) Astrology. Both systems use the Chinese Solar Calendar.

The steely purpose of the dragon gives a real edge to what will be a month where the Chi is vibrant, if somewhat whimsical.

But the fireworks will not be flying quite yet as, in the I Ching Astrology calendar, we kick of the month with a 1 Water Day. Elementally Water holds Fire in check, so the outlook for each sign is tinged with a sense of rising energy.

I see your day the day ahead for your Birth Star like this.

1 Water Star: That sense of change will feel empowering – use it.

2 Earth Star: You can nurture friends and family with your strong Yin energy

3 Thunder Star: As the Water temporarily dampens the fire, you can chill with ease.

4 Wind Star: Use the expansive Water Chi, illuminated by Fire, to broaden your enquiries.

5 T’ai Chi Star: In your world, it's all Fire today.

6 Heaven Star: When Water contains Fire, all is well in your world. Relax and enjoy.

7 Lake Star: In matters of the heart, you can find just the right words….

8 Mountain Star: At your altitude today, Water and Fire both energise you.

9 Fire Star: Even with the handbrake on, you’ll be travelling faster than normal. If that’s possible!
